MA: Is there a BPM sweet spot?

Postby ddrXero64 » Thu Jul 29, 2010 9:53 am

PLEASE COMPLETE TO PARTICIPATE AND VOTE.

Here is the challenge. I want you guys to play the song Boss Machine offline. For those of you that don't have the song, I have uploaded it here. This is a very common and easy keyboard song. But I it seemed to me I had trouble getting good MA on it and to AAA was a hassle. So I raised the rate to 1.2 and this is what came out.

It seems that raising the rate and BPM made it easier to get good MA. So i wondered, what if I raise it more? Here's 1.3 rate.

So what I want everyone participating to do is to play this song four times ( more if you want). Once on 1.0, once on 1.1, once on 1.2, and once on 1.3. I will post 1.5 and 1.75 just in case, but I''m not expecting to see those results. After playing it, select the rate that gave you the best score. I want to see if there's not only a sweet spot for speed, but for BPM as well. Leave your feedback here. You can also post scores.

For those who don't know what rates are, they are options only found offline. They increase the song and steps, which also increase the speed mod accordingly. Here's a chart to help you out.

Boss Machine BPM (160)
--------------------1.0 Rate 1.1 Rate 1.2 Rate 1.3 rate 1.5 Rate
CMod 450 --------450-------495------540-------585------675
CMod 500 --------500-------550------600-------650------750
CMod 600 --------600-------660------720-------780------900

So to find the Cmod you want to match your current one use this equation, where X is your current Cmod and Y is the one you want to use to keep the same speed. R represents the rate you plan to use.

Y=X/R

Use this to adjust your Cmod.

Instead of providing a chart of how much a particular CMOD speeds up by under rates, you should demonstrate how to create the ideal cmod for every rate, given that on rate 1.0x you play with cmod X.

Here's what you do:
At rate 1.1 you want the number Y such that Y*1.1 = X, so Y = X/1.1
at rate 1.2, Y = X/1.2
etc.

For instance, my rate 1.0x CMOD is C700, so my cmods go 636, 583, 538, 500...

I think you may have meant to X*1.1=Y. If X is the present Cmod and Y is the end result, then the results to the rates 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.5 for the Cmod C700 would be 770, 840, 910, 1050 (respectively). But I will add this into my post.
Thanks for the tip though, it's just that it may be confusing for some people to understand all of this, so I try to make it simple to appeal to everyone. Some people that have just started might not understand, and there are experienced people that don't even know what rates are! So yes, thanks again.

EDIT: Ahh, I see what you mean. If you want the same Cmod with that rate you need the corresponding Cmod to adjust. Will add. Thanks!

You're answering a different question.

You are answering the question: Given a particular cmod and a rate, what cmod does it turn into?

I am answering the question: If I want to read at a particular cmod at a given rate, what cmod do I use so that it turns into my ideal cmod?

I know, I already edited my first post. Look at the equation. That's why edit 1 is under my second post. I misinterpreted your post at first, but then I realized what you were trying to say. If you want Y Mod at R rate, You need X mod. And thanks for the info again.

I've Quaded 1,0 to 1,5 Rate on Boss Machine so it's hard to say, but Either way, I'll say (and I voted) 1,2, which is pretty close to 200. (192 BPM IIRC, 160 +32).
Which is the speed I'm most comfortable with MA-wise.
